‘Time Revealing Truth’
This early painting shows Father Time with wings and his scythe and to bring it up to date a watch, and Truth with her foot on the globe and right hand pointing towards the sun, these being their attributes. In the past this subject was the excuse for showing a beautiful naked woman being wooed by an old man. I have given the scene a more sinister feel, as the girl is tense and angular and perhaps about to be raped. The subject is of course ‘in time truth will out’, ‘revealing the naked truth’. Does time reveal the elusive truth of painterly concerns?
